  • keeping me company

as this dark night settles down around me, wrapping me in its cold winter embrace, I close my eyes and let my thoughts fly free

Once OST and silent tears keeping me company

                                                               Satisfy me.

  • taking some time

Everything is a bit hectic right now.  There are so many things that I need to do and it's a bit overwhelming.  It's all part of life so it can't be that bad because I'm sure I'm not the only one with a lot on her plate.

But something that is bothering me and I feel so helpless about is how my nieces are adapting to life in the States.

What I'm worried about is that two of them are just at the cusp of adulthood and slowly learning about who they are but is now thrown in a foreign country where frankly they can be lead down the wrong paths.  Even though they're 19 and 18, they are a lot younger emotionally and are still very naive.  The worst they think will happen now if they sneak out at night with a guy they just met is maybe being grounded the next day.  And what's even worse, the way they were raised isn't considered sheltered at all by Vietnamese standards so they think they're worldly and a bit jaded.  They have told me before that other girls wish to be them since they have so many friends and know so many guys.

The second eldest is also a bit of a rebel and boy crazy so she's the one that I worry the most about!  Imagine being 18 and rebellious, naive but thinking you're worldly and jaded since "you've been around" when it comes to guys, but in reality, you've just been around the Vietnamese street food vendors with guys, literally.

I wish they came over when they were younger so they can go through the entire growing up years here or wait at least a few more years until they are more sure of who they are.

And honestly, I also wished they had settled in some place with less Vietnamese people so that they are forced to learn English.  Right now they live near Little Saigon.  It's Vietnamese central.  I know so many Vietnamese people that were born here or came here when they were young (under 5yrs old) and yet they speak such horrible broken English that many people (and I included) have asked if they have just came to the States.  I also know of many people that came here in their early teenage years and two decades later still don't speak English.  They literally only know the generic greetings and that is it!  I don't want that for my nieces and nephew.  I want them to actually learn English so that they are not confined later in life.

  • I'm (still) so darn tired!

My sis and I have been busy preparing for her exam this morning and I'm working on little sleep for the past 3 days.

I apologize if I didn't pick up your calls or answer your texts.  After coming out of an exhausted 6 hour sleep at 5pm today I realized I had a whole bunch of missed calls and unread texts (my phone was in my sister's purse for days and I didn't even realize it was missing).

It was all for naught though because even though we woke at 5:45 and left at 6:15, we encountered an automobile accident along the way that delayed us an extra 50 minutes.  We arrived at 8:04, she was inside at 8:05 but one of the ladies sitting at the receptionist-like area wouldn't let her come in late.  Even though when I took my test, one girl came in over half an hour late!!!  The exam hadn't even started yet b/c one of the judges came out of the testing room to inform the rest of them that they "were about to start."  She saw my sister and asked if my sister will be joining them but the Vietnamese lady at the reception desk said: "NO!"

Last time I was there, I heard so many people say that the Vietnamese lady is extremely rude to other Vietnamese people and I myself witnessed and experienced her brusque attitude in addressing Vietnamese people (and other Asians) and her polite friendly demeanor when addressing non-Asians.  I hate people like that!  The other two ladies were ready to let my sister in but the Vietnamese one contradict them and said: "she isn't allowed!"

I was pissed at her because the rules aren't enforced every time.  It's only enforced whenever they felt like enforcing it.  When I was there, I was still waiting in line to register at 8:17 even though the exam was supposed to start at 8:00.  And I'm still pissed that they let someone in at 9:00 (after the exam already started for 30something minutes) but today wouldn't let my sister in even though the exam hadn't even started!  And yes, we explained about the car accident but the lady was being a bitch.

I'm still tired.  I'm gonna head to bed now and probably sleep til noon.

  • Little sister!!!!

My sister wasn't prepared for her nail technician practical examination on Monday since her week was hectic with school and field experience in the local middle school.  (She wants to be a teacher btw.)

But I come to find out she didn't even look up the required documents needed and hasn't set up her kit for the exam.  So of course I helped her out but halfway through she informed me today is her boyfriend's birthday and she has to leave early.  Tomorrow's time will already be cut short b/c of previous engagements.

She left of course, and I continued to start putting her kit together for her as well as clean up more stuff.  Two frustrated hours later I texted her and told her how much trouble she is costing me only to get this in reply:

"I love you sis... Thank you..."

    Whyyyyyyy... that little.........

    wait for it

About Me

  • Quelqu'un qui parle francais ici? Born in Saigon, immigrated to the States, and relocated to Philly for school. Looking to be my own boss by the time I'm 25. Love adventures, friends, traveling, dancing, or any combination of the above, with laughter thrown in. Terrible with keeping in contact with friends. Awesome on the dance floor. Reserved on the first meeting (when I sit back and observe), goofball when I'm comfortable, and sarcastic at times. I truly believe you are define by the company you keep and I'm grateful for the friends and family I have.
